The North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association, along with our valuable sponsors and partners, was pleased to present Making Energy Work: Building a Sustainable Energy Economy in the Southeast on February 3, 2009 at the Raleigh Convention Center.

In an effort to build upon and continue the important discussions and debates that occurred at the "Making Energy Work" forum, NCSEA is making available all presentations and audio from the entire day, including the three Plenary Sessions and 10 Breakout Sessions, which you can access below.

This "first-of-its-kind" forum brought together many of the nation's top energy and economic experts with close to 600 leaders from across the region and nation to discuss the Southeast’s emerging new energy economy and developing sustainable energy resources.

Track 1: Workforce Training – National Perspectives & Best Practices

The Southeast could generate a significant number of jobs centered on renewable energy, energy efficiency and high performance building.  This session will discuss public policies that encourage these jobs, the importance of assessing workforce needs, steps to develop workforce training program programs, resources and outcomes from national dialogues, and examples of workforce training programs from across the country.

Track 2: Renewable Energy Portfolio and Reliability

The portfolio mix reliability session focuses on how renewable energy contributes to reliability in other regional portfolios.  The objective of the session is to support an informed dialogue about how solar, wind and biomass resources contribute to a reliable portfolio mix.  The presenters will capture a variety of operational aspects of grid reliability and planning.

Track 3: Energy Productivity of Southeast Economies

The Southeast maintains the lowest economic energy productivity in the country. As a result, our region must consume significantly more electricity in order to produce $1 million in gross state product relative to other states and regions.  This session will explore the energy characteristics of the Southeast and discuss how they can be turned into economic opportunities.
