Participate in a Utilities Commission Hearing
The NC Utilities Commission is the state agency authorized to regulate the rates and services of all public utilities in North Carolina, including the electric and natural gas industries. To a limited degree the Commission regulates electric membership operations, small power producers, and electric merchant plants.The Commission is required by law to conduct hearings in general rate cases and other rate making procedures. In the case of larger utilities, these cases may lengthy and complex, taking up to several months to complete. These cases include public hearings that are held in Raleigh and throughout the state in the service areas of the utilities to give the customers an opportunity to testify. When testifying a public hearing come prepared to speak for about 2-3 minutes. Also, bring a hardcopy of our comments to submit the Commission.
