More than 320 business and energy leaders, government officials and economic development experts joined the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association (NCSEA) for a unique public policy and networking event at the US National Whitewater Center in Charlotte on Wednesday, February 24th from 4-8 pm.  Speakers and attendees discussed and debated the following question:  What energy policies would create the most renewable energy jobs and attract the most business to the 16-county Charlotte region?

**CONFIRMED SPEAKERS** - We confirmed several "top-level" feed-in rate experts who shared their first-hand knowledge and experiences with attendees. These experts include the Mayor of Gainesville, Florida, which has seen a tenfold (10x) increase in solar installations after implementing the city's new financing program last year. In addition, Duke Energy Carolinas' President Brett Carter and Mecklenburg County Commissioner Jennifer Roberts will discuss their trip to Germany and the jobs and economic development opportunities that they saw, which was a result of the German feed-in rate.  (See full agenda below and downloadable presentations.)

This event was the first of several planned NCSEA events for 2010 in the Charlotte Region and across North Carolina that will help lead a comprehensive and more transparent dialogue about what our energy challenges, opportunities and solutions are for building and expanding our state's sustainable energy economy.  The February 24th event focused on the feed-in rate financing mechanism, which has been used successfully by countries around the world and US cities, including Gainesville, FL, and discussed how the Charlotte Region could potentially create jobs while attracting and growing a renewable energy industry if a well-designed feed-in rate policy is established.
