Workshop Description:  The half-day course will focus on real-world strategies to help companies take advantage of the growing momentum toward building green. The course will include national and local case studies, an examination of current green marketing research, and resources for green marketing implementation. In addition, the instructors will facilitate a small-group breakout session in which participants will have the opportunity to create their own green marketing plan.

IREC Presents NABCEP Solar Thermal Exam Prep

Location:  No travel required.  You will need a telephone connection and a high-speed internet connection.

About the Workshop:  On Tuesday and Wednesday, August 26 - 27 from 6pm - 9pm EDT, IREC will present a two-day workshop to prepare individuals for the NABCEP Solar Thermal Certification Exam, which will be held on September 13. This workshop is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.  Click here to register.  The registration fee is discounted for registrations made by August 14, 2008.

Participants will become familiar with reference materials and will review the tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities typically required to install and maintain Solar Water and Pool Heating systems. This workshop is designed for experienced installers preparing for the NABCEP Exam. Others may take the course, but it is NOT a "beginner's workshop."

About the Exam:   Registration for this training workshop does NOT include the exam. You must submit an application to NABCEP by July 4 in order to sit for the exam.  If you have questions on certification or the exam, you should contact NABCEP at 518-899-8186.

The next NABCEP solar thermal exam will be September 13. In order to sit for the exam, you must meet specified requirements and submit an application by July 4. The certification exam will be based on the Solar Thermal Task Analysis, a comprehensive list of tasks and subtasks for contractors installing solar water and pool heating systems on buildings. The purpose of the Solar Thermal Task Analysis is to define a general set of competencies or skills typically required of practitioners who install and maintain solar water and pool heating systems. The Interstate Renewable Energy Council does NOT administer the exam or offer certification.

Workshop Instructor:  Bill Guiney has twenty-six years of experience in the solar water heating and energy efficiency industries. Currently, Bill is a Program Manager for Renewable Energy Solutions for Johnson Controls, Inc. He has been a licensed solar contractor in Florida, operated a successful distribution company, was the past president of AET manufacturing and General Manager of the Duke Solar/Solargenix Energy Water Heating Division. Bill has provided training programs around the world.

Mr. Guiney is a Certified Home Energy Rater and has been a leading instructor for solar thermal at the Florida and North Carolina Solar Energy Centers and serves on the NABCEP technical committee for solar thermal.

Workshop Cost and Logistics:  The training will be Tuesday AND Wednesday, August 26 and 27 from 6pm - 9pm EDT. This is one 6-hour course and you should plan to participate in both sessions. The registration fee is $95 by August 14 and $125 after August 14. To participate in this workshop you will need a telephone connection and a high-speed internet connection. Please contact Larry Sherwood to work out arrangements if you are unable to meet these requirements. About one-week before the workshop, you will receive an e-mail with connection details.

GreenNC: Building for a Sustainable Future Conference

Location:  Jane S. McKimmon Center, NC State University, Raleigh, NC

The NC Triangle Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, with the coordination of the NC Solar Center, is pleased to announce the 4th Annual GreenNC Tradeshow. This one day event featuring over 60 exhibitors from across North Carolina will offer anyone in the commercial building industry an excellent opportunity to gather information about sustainable products and practices in NC, learn about recent industry advances, and network with others interested in greening commercial buildings.

The 4th Annual GreenNC Tradeshow for the North Carolina Commercial Building Industry and luncheon are on September 4, 2008.  LEED workshop is being offered the next day, September 5, 2008.

General attendance to the tradeshow hall is Free.
Luncheon registration is $35. Students get in for $20 with student ID.

NCSEA Hosts Green Building Pavillion at Raleigh Southern Ideal Home Show

Location: North Carolina State Fairgrounds, Raleigh, NC

2008 NCSEA Statewide Green Building & Solar Tour

Location:  This summer, NCSEA will announce local tours across North Carolina of green building and renewable energy solutions in or near your area.
